At 83, subject of ‘American Girl in Italy’ photo speaks out – http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/44182286/ns/today-today_people/#.TlFeufTJVS6
The iconic 1951 image “American Girl in Italy” turns 60 on Monday. As its anniversary approaches, the stunning woman in the photo — Ninalee Craig, now 83 — is speaking up about it. She wants to explain what the photo represents, and what it doesn’t.

Sau am putea să ne organizăm şi să-i facem concurenţă.

Martin Parr: how to take better holiday photographs
Don’t be scared of photographing a storm-out, crying fit or strop, advises the Magnum photographer – http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/aug/24/martin-parr-take-holiday-photographs
We are in danger of having a whole generation – and this will continue into the future – that has no family albums, because people just leave them on their computer, and then suddenly they will be deleted. You have to print them and put them in an album or a box, otherwise they could be lost. And write captions. You might think you are going to remember what is happening in a picture, but you probably won’t in 10 years’ time.
Stick your pics in a proper family album
The evocative Dear Photograph website only underlines the impermanence of digital photography – http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/aug/14/digital-photography-not-forever-prints
The reason is that while digital technology has generally been very good for photography as a mass medium, it has also made the resulting imagery much more fragile and impermanent. Of the billions of photographs taken every year, the vast majority exist only as digital files on camera memory cards or on the hard drives of PCs and servers in the internet “cloud”.

In 1970 I founded and edited a new London-based journal, Album. It only survived for one year, 12 issues. But during that time it published images by significant photographers, many of them before they were “names,” and often for the first time, at least in Britain.
Contributors included Bill Brandt, W. Eugene Smith, Elliott Erwitt, Edouard Boubat, George Rodger, David Hurn, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Charles Harbutt, Les Krims, Tony Ray-Jones, and a host of others.
A fuller account of Album’s life can be found, and downloaded, from this website under “Magazine Memoirs” in the section Essays and Articles.
Original copies of Album are rare and difficult to find. I felt it might be useful if every page of each issue was available to any interested photographer, historian, and critic; here they are, as PDFs.
